Five years is a little too short. I think at first they are really going to try to do the mainstream thing with the new 9-5 and 9-3X. I don't think it is going to work too well for them, however.

I think what the investors see and want out of this, and I think Koene has in the back of his head even if he is not really accepting it, is that Saab is really about the engineering. I think we are seeing a new paradigm in the auto world. Cars won't be independent and develop their own cars anymore. Instead firms like Saab will build platforms, in a very modular way (like Audi does), and basically sell those to other companies to build cars off of. And I think you might even see those companies build cars that they then turn around and rebadge for yet other companies. in a way i see Saab and Saturn coming together in this - I would not be surprised if 10 years from now Saab is the platform engineer, and they build cars for Saturn to sell.
