It seems that if you get a good one that's been maintained (PCA members have these) they aren't terrible to keep running, but parts are pricey. OTOH, If you get one that's had indifferent service they can be a money pit. And if you're paying to have the work done then you're gonna get hosed.
I don't think you can have one as your only car or DD unless you have the pockets to pay for repairs and service, or have the time to DIY. For me it would be fun car, so not mission critical. And some special tools are needed for certain jobs.
But as one isn't in the present budget anyway, it doesn't matter.
