#1 piece of advice based on my experience, go for a Penske truck instead. I've moved several times over my life, the first few times were with a U-Haul. The trucks were old, high mileage, and had some pretty major safety issues (wing mirrors that folded at highway speeds, one had the entire electrical system on the right side of the vehicle out which made it impossible to change lanes in traffic). So, we started researching Penske, which uses newer trucks, seem to be well maintained, and were actually more economical for our cross-country move as well (especially if, like a good Saab driver, you have AAA). Not to mention, you can return at most Home Depots - which makes it super convenient in our case.
Regarding the trucks to drive, they're not bad - all automatics and mod cons. We rented a 26' for our move and by the first hour in, I felt pretty comfortable with it. Was able to fit our 3-bed house all inside, so was a bit nervous having all our worldly possessions with me behind the wheel, but went off without a hitch. Good luck with your move!Posts in this Thread:
