So my typical DD probably needs a new transmission I bought it cheap two years ago (for about $2K) and I've put nearly 50k miles on it. I cant say that I like it, but its been reliable and I've only had to put new tires when I bought it, new shocks, new brakes, and a water pump which is not bad for a used car with close to 200k miles. the AC even works. but its hard to justify the $3k+ cost of a new transmission.
I've been looking at used saabs, but there just are not many choices around here, and the few that are there are not in the best of shape...
But one of the things I miss of my saabs it the horsepower. My current DD had only 144hp when it was new. I doubt it has that much now.
So I've been looking at slighly used sedans 2012 and newer with under 20k miles and under a $15k price tag. My requirements for the vehicle is that is has to fit 2 adults and 3 car seats reasonably, it has to get at least 25mpg average, it has to be reasonably reliable, and it has to have at least 200hp, a/c, a radio that I can listen to talk radio on, and that's about it. this car is an appliance.
last week when I was in getting my patriot an oil change, the dealer had a bunch of used 2013 dodge avengers with under 12k miles right in my price range with the v6 pentastar. (they told me they were media demos) I took one for a test drive while I was waiting anyways... and boy do those things scoot... But they are not the nicest car out there, but it fits my requirements of "car". Something I drive 30 miles to work, and drive 30 miles home from work.
Do you have any other suggestions? something to cross shop?
