but why would you have an extra uncut programmed that matches the car?
You can get the old style "banana" transponders for short money on ebay, compared to the key w/the buttons. I have a couple of those that I use for backup keys when I am on the road; hiking or sailing or skiing in somewhat inconvenient places to find you have no key. DEFINATELY do not lose the only transponder that works until you have a back up or two.
It doesn't cost anymore to program 1 key or 2, but you have to have ALL of the keys when you go for tech II programming (ie in my case, I took 4 in)
