The wages for UAW Skilled trades are pretty much comparable with AFL/CIO wage scales across the country, but the UAW semi-skilled an un-skilled wage scales got way out of kilter with the rest of the country.

Even my Dad, who retired from GM as a laborer/janitor way back in 1981, was very uncomfortable with the inapproriateness of the pay scales before he retired. I remember him saying " A Nurse is responsible for saving lives in a hospital while I mop restroom floors. Why am I being paid more than a Nurse? It isn't right and doesn't make sense."

The loss of US manufacturing may well be tied to these unjustifiable wage scales of our recent past. Let's hope we learn from history.
