Is I sit here looking at my red 09 9-5, I have decided to keep it with 135k. I have had it since about 47k and it has treated me well. I also own 2 other 9-5's and they are working fine, with a blower motor from time to time and of course the SID problem and a turbo (self replaced).
It's clear that everyone else sees the Saabs as an expensive to maintain non-US car. I am currently in a more traditional area and everyone tries to keep loyal to the US brands. My harping about the car is converting some, but will never convert others.
Since I have had my car, most of my friends have gone through 2 or more GM type cars / SUVs. It's clear that between the US Loyalty and the lack of good marketing for Saab, the message is not getting through.
I am currently installing a new Head End and there are quite a few issues with that, but I don't mine, but I am sure others would. The quality of the construction of the car is amazing compared with others (including US) that I have worked on.
I had to put an o2 sensor in a V6 Saab and the dealer wanted > $200 for it. I could not believe it, why not $1000? Got a Saab connection compatible one at advance auto parts for $70.
One friend that is a bit car savvy asked me if I would recommend Saabs to someone that does not turn a wrench. I replied an 2004 or later.
It's clear that if you are at all a mechanic, Saabs are a great choice. If you are not, you need to find a good dealer or indy. I read one posting that if a local indy stopped servicing the car, he would sell. This is a very interesting comment.
I am thinking of starting an indy shop after that and my experiences with dealers.... Most are good, but some you have to watch.
Now for GM. I hope that someone from GM is reading this.
1) Stop selling these stupid GM look a likes. It is just stupid and you are losing money on it. Just stop it now.
2) Make the 9-3 and 9-5 the best you can. Even though the new ones I have issues with the insides, the outsides are ok (except for the raccoon look).
3) Reduce the new car price. They are too expensive for the current car.
4) Use the I4 engine with turbo in EVERY car / truck you can. Work on this engine to get the most MPG you can. I am getting 30mpg open road with an automatic. Just get the around town MPG up.
Well, this is enough rambling.
