These guys have all nailed it on the head. I went from a 96 9000CS to an 01 9-5 LPT 5 speed (now with 120K) and recently added an 04 Arc Auto. Couldn't be happier with both, although I agree about the 9K - it was an awesome car. The 5 speeds in the 9-5 cars are fine but not particularly sporty, whereas the auto is a pleasure and well-tuned to the turbo torque which comes on at low rpm. So they don't downshift too soon if you don't press too hard but if you hit it harder it will kick down one or two gears and you are gone. The 04-05 Arc to me is an awesome blend of performance (220 hp) with comfort and reasonable ride quality.
