I had the same creak from the front end of my '03 9-5 Aero wagon. The creak on acceleration started to get really loud, so I had my mechanic replace all of them at once. One of them was completely shot...full on metal/metal rubbing. The car feels much tighter and is much quieter as a result.
My car only has 44K on it, but it went from Boston 4 seasons and winter driving, to LA desert dry air. I'm finding that rubber parts dry out quickly here...I've had tires crack after 5 years, even with plenty of tread.
I keep my 9-5 washed, waxed, and in tip top shape, and address any issue it has...and quite a few recently (fuel pump for erratic fuel gauge, recent fuel evap issues, remanufactured A/C compressor and full service (almost $900 with labor). I'm used to European cars being expensive, but I keep my cars driving as like new as possible, so it's just par for the course, I guess.
All it takes is a good turbo induced run, the vented seats turned on, and the XM playing through the Harmon Kardon stereo and I realize I'm keeping it for a while longer.
Cheers,
Paul H.
