I think the slider changes the sensitivity, I pretty much leave mine in the middle position. Another thing to know, when you shut off the engine it deactivates the wipers so when you start the engine you have to turn them off and then on again. They work very well about 97% of the time, occasionally when it is very lightly misting they aren't sensitive enough. In that case I turn them off and use the "digital" method to make them intermittent.
