Hello everybody!
First off let me say this website has been a great resource for learning all there is to know about Saabs. I currently own a 1999 9-3 (2.0t base) that has been relatively trouble free for 186,000 miles. I'm generally pretty handy when it comes to working on it, as I have done the majority of the work as I continue to accrue miles.
I'm looking to add a 9-5 to the fleet. I'm in CT, so there are quite a variety of samples to look at. Currently, I have looked at a few newer models, namely a 2004 (which turned out to be quite undesirable). I have read that this year and up are more reliable and have had many of the kinks worked out of them, and as such, tend to be a more solid car. However, a local place that is a reputable saab mechanic and dealer has 2 2001 9-5's that have piqued my interest. They both have what I consider roughly low miles, about 100,000 or just under (I bought my current 9-3 with 98K). The shop is quite knowledgeable in these cars, and has dropped the oil pan and cleaned for any sludge, both of which seem to never have been affected by in the first place (or so they tell me). They have also been updated to the latest PVC (?) systems. Both appear to be nice, solid cars.
Am I wrong for being interested? I know, typically, history and maintenance outweigh the importance of model year, so I assume these years would be just as strong as some of the newer models given their apparent quality conditions. Does anyone have any guidance they could lend me? Or some more things to consider? (some weaker turbos on the lpt's etc.) I would really appreciate any help.
Thank you
