There's plenty of pre-2004's out there with plenty of good miles left on them.
Install PCV#6, and you've COMPLETELY mitigated the harm of the original PCV system (assuming you caught it before any harm, which is quite possible, especially if pans have been dropped).
Post-2004's go through DIC's also. If you're looking at 2001's with 100k miles, I'll give you 20:1 odds they've had the DIC already replaced (if nothing else, it should have been done under a recall), so their DIC is no different than a post 2004 (if software upgrade was also performed, which a dealer would have done).
My first SAAB was a new 2002 Aero SW. Personally, I prefer the looks of the 2002, and that also gets many unseen tweaks, a 5-spd auto, and ESP. I would recommend waiting for a 2002 or newer Aero, but Aero's do ride rougher, 17" tires are more expensive, maybe you're not really interested in the Aero.
good luck
