V60 looks kind of interesting. Isn't it more 9-3sc sized? I would think the V70 is closer in size to the 9-5, but not sure the engine options now, and I believe they are all XC70's in North America, right? Realistically, they are probably the top of our list if we ever get to a point where Saabs are no longer practical for us... we tried Subies and they are not our cup of tea also - ok in snow, alright around town, pretty mediocre to abysmal on the highway imho. Audi and BMW might be options also, but certainly not cheap! Fewer wagons are available now from all brands. sadly.
That said, it should be a long time before we need to change... if you've gone this far on a 2000, and aren't required to buy new, maybe look for a 2008/9 9-5... many of the issues you would have had on a 2000 were corrected by about 2004. If you are ok with the Dame Edna look, they are solid cars, and you should be able to get quite a few years out of one! But not everyone is comfortable buying an orphan brand car, especially further and further out... helps if you DIY some things or have a good indy! Our 2004 has been mostly trouble free and feels like a new car.
