how hard is it to remove + reinstall the fender liners? any tricks/issues?
my wis computer is down so I can't just look there.
basically I'm dealing with the common rust spot between the rear wheel and the door... like usual with rust, what you see from the outside is the tip of the iceberg... so far mine is all cosmetic, but I figure I'd better nip it in the bud with some POR15 before winter + salt/snow hits. Even so, it is necessary to remove the rocker panel trim and gain some level of access in behind the fender liner as the rust starts in that 3D corner (and extends much further back than one might have guessed just looking at the side of the car). I'll have pictures soon.
Anyway, I have removed the rocker panel and the fastener at the front of the fender. There's another in the back to remove the fender. Any more? Do I need to remove the plastic lip along the fender itself? what is the adhesive used there?
Finally, the rocker panel trim and fender liner are held on by plastic fasteners that screw on to screw threads that stick out of the car... are these welded in place? or can they be unscrewed? I ask because the one in the fender was sufficiently rusted that it broke while removing the plastic fastener... if they unscrew, there's enough of a stub that I might be able to extract it still, but I thought I'd better check before trying and making things worse!
thanks!
