Our 9-5 Aero Wagon, with new Nokian WR G3 tires, has been unstoppable in all the snow we have received here in New England. The TCS indicator may come on in slick conditions, but the car goes. Many of the new cars we are looking at to replace it (see previous post) come in either FWD or AWD.
Typically, FWD gets 1-2 MPG better city and highway mileage, weighs 125-175 pounds less giving faster acceleration, and costs $1250- $1630 less. And the Volvos with the exciting new Drive-E engine are only available in FWD for 2015.
With the forward weight bias, traction control, and higher ground clearance of these cars, and the fact that we do mostly highway driving on clear roads and buy great tires like the Nokian WR G3, I am thinking that FWD is the better choice in our case.
Any comments will be appreciated.
