After turning my M3 in to a track only car and buying a Ecoboost F150 to drag it around I realized I needed some cheap transportation just to get good daily economy.
Customer towed in a nice 2004 9-5 Aero A/T 120k with a misfire on cyl 1. Compression was zero on the cylinder. Removed head and found the combination of a vacuum leak and bad airmass meter melted a valve in cylinder 1. Customer decided they did not want to repair and gave me the car for the diagnostic time I had in it.
Let it set for a few months and finally decided to go through it. Used head w/ new bolts and gaskets, re-seal the timing cover, engine mounts all around, water pump, alternator, subframe bushings, plugs, rear pads/rotors, (4) new sachs sport struts w/ mounts & bearings, (2) D2S xenon bulbs, (4) tires, fuel pump insert, new wipers, and a fresh Mobil 1 oil change. Drove it around for a few hundred miles locally then jumped in it and roadtripped from Pittsburgh, PA to LA. 31mpg at 80mph and plenty of power to make the high mountain passes fun.
I really love the little car. Just keep it out of the sand.
