and you are very close to the mean value for failure. But remember the statistics were weird - instead of the usual bell shaped curve, the data fell into a "barbell" distribution, as if there are "good" pumps and "bad" pumps, with the "bad" ones averaging something like 100K and the "bad" ones averagine a lot more. Alas there weren't sufficient data to try to separate the pumps into groups and perform a dual analysis, but suffice it to say you're definitely in the "do you feel lucky?" category. IMO.
Anders' approach of "scoping" the current draw is no doubt the definitive diagnostic approach. I asked my local tech about it, and while he was intrigued, he said that by the time he dragged out the scope and figured out the connections and settings, he would just as well replace the pump insert (which I acquired at a SOC charity auction). That was around 120K. I am unlikely to drive the car to 250K, so just changing it was a no brainer. As a side benefit, the flakey fuel gauge is now working fine.
