how much will that Lucas UCL cost you over let's say 120k miles ? I never use fuel additives and plan on replacing the insert myself on my 2004 between 110k ~ 120k miles - should be less than $100 .
The pump failed on my 1999 9-5 I think approaching 120k miles, on my 1986 9000t the original pump was still good at 225k miles - but I think that car may have had two pumps.
Which brings me to failure causes - debris from dirty fuel or rust is often cited, not habitually running the tank low is another cause - not because of cooling so much but having to work less hard lifting the fuel and if your fuel filter is clogged some say the pump runs more and works harder but I think that may depend on the type of fuel delivery system, doesn't the Saab pump run continually when engine is on and use a return to the tank line ?
