So the meter is in parallel with the fuse, not in series with it. Best would be to get a data logger reading VDC and drive around until the problem recurs. So far the gremlin has not come back but I'm not tempting fate and ordered a new ignition switch - should be next week.
From what I've read on other boards, the MIU drop-out is highly correlated to incipient ignition switch failure.
Since I've decided to replace the switch, does the shift lever need to come apart to do this job? The car is an automatic and has the sport button at the top of the Lever. I recall when doing the jalousie that I got around this by cutting one side of the jalousie. The WIS calls for removing the "sport button" and removing the shift lever cover.
