Hoping to get some advise on next troubleshooting steps. Thank you in advance! here is the background of what happened. Aside from a dealer in Indianapolis, I dont know of any Saab indy mechanics near Columbus, Indiana.
- Driving last week the car died randomly while slowing down. Headlights still worked. Put into neutral while rolling and restarted with no issues. I thought maybe the key fell out of run detent to on.
- Same thing happened two more times so I tried while driving to see how easily the key would change to "on" but I could still feel a typical click feel.
- While driving home the car "bucked" one time like a failing DIC or CPS but threw no codes. No issues remainder of that day.
- next day had dead battery. charged on trickle, car started, with fully loaded electrical load (lights, brights, defrost, seat warmers, seat fans, radio, etc) had ~14.0 volts at the battery so I assumed alternator was charging properly.
- Drove to work next day, couple stops on way, no issues, driving home it died at stop sign. Started back up, put in gear and it died. Started again, put in gear and died. Then had weak start so I used jump pack but would not start at all. Battery was dead dead and flashers would barely work.
- Had car towed home. Trickle charged battery over night. Battery tested today at 2 parts stores, held charge but failed for only ~330 CCA. Battery is barely 3 years old and an Interstate 6 yr battery.

Pulling the alternator is my next step to see if it is possibly intermittent or the voltage regulator is bad. Something caused the car to run off the battery to die.

But why would it not restart off a jump pack? It turned over but sounded like just the engine turning over. I have not tested for fuel yet but that wouldn't point to a dying battery or charging system.

Can I troubleshoot the CPS or is it a works or doesn't work part electrically?

thank you very much a for reading my long winded post!!! Have had car since 2005 and put on 165k miles (199k now) and never ran into a Saab issue I haven't been able to fix yet with help from Saab community (blend door, DIC's, turbo, timing belt, recirc door linkage, fuel pump, window rollers, CPS, coolant bypass valve, etc... all the fun Saab stuff we learn by owning).
