I did a no load voltage test on the positive cable to the alternator and had 0.00 V across the terminal to + bat. I'll do an at-load test when I can get a helper in the garage or longer DVM cables. I also checked battery ground to engine and chassis with both showing good continuity.
My jump pack was dead from the weekend so I installed the old battery that had a full charge and it started right up and did not die when I put it in gear and went off-idle. Thinking the battery is acting up during use/load/charging/cornering/braking/etc. since that's when it has died each time (sharp right turn and braking at light & stop sign so maybe plates are shorting)? Not driving car until I get a new battery later this week.
One thing I noticed is the green/white wire on back of alternator has a frayed/brittle spot about 2" from the ring terminal at a bend point. Is that the voltage sensing wire? I want to replace it but splicing a short piece above the half-shaft looks rough. Certainly cant get a soldering iron up there. Where is the other end of the wire so I can maybe bypass it with a whole new wire? Or maybe I can use self soldering/shrink butt connector with my wiring torch in the tight spot.
thank you again!
