Well, It doesn't like like an option..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Trailer Hitch for a 2008 9-5, Dave The Ice Age Knave ![]() ![]() |
I wondered the same thing.
- Did sales drop off so severely that hitch manufacturers chose not to even look at the freshened 9-5's to see if their previous hitches would fit, and the old hitches will work?
- Or is there enough of a difference in the trunk floor pans that the hitches for the early models won't fit, and low sales discouraged hitch manufacturers from designing a new model? Draw-tite has nothing for the later OG 9-5's.
I did find the following:
CURT 11831 Class 1 Trailer Hitch for 2006+ SAAB 9-5
Which appears to be a Class I+ hitch (not an official classification) since this hitch is rated for a Gross Towing Weight of 2,500 lbs versus the Class I standard of 2,000 lbs, and 250 lb tongue weight versus the Class I standard of 200 lbs.
800 pounds for a trailer, plus 800 pounds for a Formula S car inside, plus other incidentals such as two canopies (one each for car and owner) and who knows what else, and the Gross Towing Weight could easily surpass the 2,000 lbs limit. Especially if the 'who knows' includes a tool box, parts, spare mounted tires, fuel cans, etc.
