I found a easier way to remove and replace the circlip on the oil pump.
I borrowed (stole) a exercise band from my wife and used it to apply increasingly pressure to an 11 inch pair of Harbor freight straight pair of modified pliers. I narrowed the pliers tips so that the angle was better suited to keep a good grip on the circlip using a Dremel.
The pliers have a textured grip which held the band secure. I did use a wooden vise to hold the circlip upside down to start the band wrapping around the handles of the pliers. I then carefully moved the circlip over to the car (2004 9-5 ARC 2.3T) and unwrapped the band slowly. Bingo it was in! I did not use the band to remove the clip.
I used a bottle jack placed underneath one edge of the clip with a straight screw driver and was able to get another sturdy screwdriver to get an edge out. Yes, this was on the ground with floor jacks. Fun times, for an old guy!
