Ok that makes sense, I was doing one at a time. I started with #3, and I just tried #4. But Ill loosen them all at once to gain a bit of clearance.
but first: When I snugged up the #3 main bearing cap the crankshaft locked up. I backed off a bit and I can turn it again. Same with #4 ... if I snug it up the crankshaft locks. Surely Im doing something wrong but I dont get it!
- Ive not put in any new bearings yet, I wanted to make sure I could remove the old.
- The bearings are properly seated with the tab placed properly.
- the shells are flush in each respective half.
I cant figure out why it locks. My assistant turns the crank while I snugs the cap. It's fine until it just seats and then locks up. I back off a turn and crank is free again.
what am I doing wrong?
Can I inspect and or replace the balance shaft bearings? I hadnt planned on it, but it starting to sound like I should cut the chain.
