Unless a 9-5 has a serious issue like corrosion, engine or tranny failure, it can make a lot of sense to renovate if you are still inspired by the car. It certainly helps if you can do some DIY and leave the rest to a trusted mechanic. If budget allows, its best to do most things in a short time frame so you can motor on and just enjoy the car with rose tinted sunglasses. Well cared for examples seem to be capable of lasting 25 years or more with the engine and tranny worth up to 500,000km.
