First of all, you will not have a new car after spending the money. You will have a rebuilt engine if all the bearings and piston rings and such are replaced.

Transmission is still the same old one, alternator, fuel pump, radiator and the list goes on.

So all depending on the shape of the rest of the car, mileage, the urge to get a new car soon or the sentimental value to you, it may or may not be worth sinking money into an engine rebuild.
Only you and the mechanic knows that answer.
