You don’t need to use the VIN to marry the radio to the car if it has previously been married to the car. There is a method to install a radio that has not been divorced from another car if you know the VIN of the donor car. You change the VIN of your car to that of the donor car. Then marry the new radio to the car which should work because the VIN of the car now matches the VIN of the radio. Then divorce the radio and change the VIN of your car back to the actual VIN. The radio, being divorced, should now be ready to install ion any 9-5 of the right years. Maybe the person you are purchasing the radio from has a way to change the VIN programmed in the radio to your VIN so it can be married without any additional steps. If he has a similar 9-5 (and a Tech2) he could use the procedure above to put your VIN in the radio. I had also thought about there being problems with the separate amp connected to your radio (low volume), but since you say the controls don’t work the problem seems to be with the radio unit, unless both units have problems.
