It strikes me that if you are getting anything but the “CODE” message in the display on the radio, it’s not truly divorced. The fact that you are getting some sound seems to point to it being married.
You could try to select “DIVORCE” in Tech 2, ensuring the radio is divorced and then “MARRY” it as outlined in the below, but in all likelihood it feels like your attempts to remove the unit perhaps cracked a circuit board or connection internally, in which case hopefully the replacement using will work out (and maybe even arrived pre-married to your VIN).
