I had a 1992 9000 that intermittently would not crank, not even a click. But after turning the key six or eight times it would always start. There was a service port under the hood where a very short piece of wire could be used to run the starter motor by jumping two terminals, so that piece of wire was my backup I never needed. After much tracing, I determined there was enough resistance in the wiring to and from the ignition switch so that sometimes the voltage was insufficient to activate the starter solenoid but several jolts got it to activate. So I hooked up a generic relay activated by the ignition switch that would send power directly from the battery to the solenoid over heavy wire and the problem was solved. The point of this story is that seemingly good wiring can sometimes cause strange problems. Maybe the factory wire was barely adequate for the current and a little age-related resistance made it inadequate, but I never knew. I believe others had this problem with the 9000.
