First, I test drove an Aero with a stick at JMK in Springfield (where I bought it). If a dealer doesn't have a new one they will surely have a 2002 with a stick, even used, to get the feel of it. The 97 900s was, in the view of many, a step down from the classic (thru 93) and the Aero is a huge step up, in comfort and driveability, from the 93 900 I gave up. I've always had a stick, and if you have, stay with it. You'll get better pickup, better mileage, and more control. The tires on the Aero are Michelin Primacy and there is a survey on the Tirerack site - not the best high performance tire, but rated to about 150 mph. Susceptible to pothole damage, but no-one on this site downs them on safety. (no good on snow and ice, so consider the 4 wheel wheel/snow package, which will factor into your long term tire wear and make you invincible in snow and ice) And if you don't like them to start with, the dealer might trade you down from the 17" wheels to the 16" on the other models. The 17" cost more for tires and for wheels. We have the touring package (Bi-xenon headlights, MUCH better, a few other goodies - the parking assist on the wagon is helpful). The Aero is MUCH more powerful than the linear, but rides an inch lower, so you have to watch steep driveway curbs. I have clocked about 26 mpg so far with required premium gas, less than 4000 mi. on the car. The best i ever did wit the 900 was 24, so when this one breaks in, it will make up for the premium gas, easily. I love it, my wife loves it, and even my 18 year old daughter, who called the 900 a squashed turtle, grudgingly likes it. And again, I'd go for the wagon. (built in roof rails, among other things)The dealers can get you a price on any of them, and bring it in from another dealer. If yours won't, especially in this economy, go elsewhere. I'm in NYC, and bought in NJ.
