Interesting Maintenance tips from a Saab Mechanic

I talked with a Saab mech who offered some suggestions:
1) don't switch from regular oil to full synthetic in one fail swoop or you'll likely blow gaskets and seals
2) when switching over to a semi/synthetic oil (or any time you want to clean out the engine) do a regular oil change with whatever oil you're using, but use 1/2 quart of regular tranny fluid instead of the last 1/2 quart of oil. He said that it's a inside trick that gets out all the gummies. He said that he's used that trick for years with great success. Just run the oil/tranny fluid for the regular 5k miles and things should be cleaned out.
3) He told me not to switch my 99 9-5 to synthetic tranny fluid, but to use the DexronIII recommended by Saab
4) ALWAYS ALWAYS use the new metal washers when changing oil/tranny fluid
Any thoughts??
