John,
I work at a Saab dealership. A month or so ago, a 99 9-5 V-6 came in with a timing belt tensioner bearing that had failed at 85K. The belt had be replaced at 60K, but not the tensioner as it would have cost extra. The 60K belt replacement is covered by warranty. Customer was facing a $6500 bill for repairs, traded it in for $3500 torwards a new 9-3SS. This is not the first one I have seen, nor will it be the last.
Buy a 4 cylinder with CPO warranty and enjoy. If you can swing it, the 2002 Aero has 250 hp.
