It was a marketing ploi to get buyers who felt a Saab didn't have enough cylinders for the price you pay. They didn't understand Saab's philosophy of economy and power co-exhisting. The V-6 is not as reliable, nor is it as powerful our upgradeable. New Saabs do not have turbo lag, and dI cassets rarely go out and before they do they usually let you know (rough idle, hesitation under load, etc..) The ecopower 4 cyl has been voted one of the worlds 10 best engines in the mid 90's for good reason, and it has only improved since. Go and see the list of high mileage saabs and count how many 6 cylinder there are vs 4 cylinders. I'm not say the 6 is a bad engine, it's not, just remember those extra two cylinders will cost you alot more in the long run. Good luck.
