If you check the website (see my previous ) where recalls and service bulletins are listed and go in under Saab 9-5 you will find there have been quite a few more for the 4 cylinder than the V6, although both have significantly fewer than the Volvo for instance. Both are good solid engines; the V6 is about as bulletproof as an engine gets. The reason the V6 has been dropped is that the angle of the V and the configuration of the engine compartment is such that there is not enough room to hang a biturbo on the engine. This restricts how much the engine can be boosted. Hopefully, when the current 9-5 is replaced, the engine compartment will be such that a V6 can again be utilized. Hopefully also, that will be before I am ready to replace my 9-5. My most recent car is a 350Z.
