in my sister's 2000 wagon. At 70k, she was getting sporadic on/off CELs and of course let it slide for a few weeks.
After her idler pulley/belt went ballistic (at 65k) , leaving her stranded, towed and with a $400 bill - I talked her into replacing the DI (and carrying the old one for a spare (of course she wasn't interested in the carrying spares part).
Presto chango, new DI cassette, no more CELs.
I have to admit, it's sort of fun setting up all these contingency and preventive maintenance programs but for the average owner, it's probably only beat by a trip to the dentist, where he pulls the wrong tooth.
