Mine failed at 54,000 miles as I was pulling about 3500 RPM up a hill in thrid gear. I was able to pull over and then roll backward to a side street to get of the busy 4 lane I was on. The car has always been kept in San Diego and mileage wise is 40% short trips, 60% highway: including oil changes have been done. I can't tell you about plugs and gap and such - I had been enjoying the luxury of dealer service and haven't been getting dirty under the hood of my 99 9-5 wagon yet. I was hatching conspiracy theories because it failed so soon after teh warranty expired - but was told it would be a no-charge repair due to California (everywhere?) emissions regs that warrant the car for 70K or 7 years. Dodged the $500+ bullet but now have 71K and wonder on every long trip...
