from those who had failures (and only those thank you) is a list of the condition of the car relative to type of plug, gap and when last changed. I would also like to see usual driving conditions (i.e. short trips, highway and short trips or just highway driving) and climatic conditions. I am not sure about what has been claimed about heat being a cause of failure as my 99 9-5 lives in Florida and sees high temps and humidity. It also pulls a 2,000 lb trailer 3 months a year including mountainous terrain. The DI was changed at 110,000 miles for preventive reasons and cost about $312 USD. I did the plugs at the same time. No car I ever had without a DI ever went more than 10,000 miles without some firing problem (plugs, points, wiring, coil, etc..) I am really pleased with DI system since I have been stranded with a normal system before. So as I said, what were the conditions that resulted in failure. I also suspect some water getting into the system (not necessarily the DIC itself may be causing the high voltage to short out and cause the internal arcing that may be occuring. I have a lot of experience with high voltage power supplies for ATC radars that failed far too often in the old days -- 10KV drawing 50 amps can really arc when a short occurs. Well enough rant for now. Lets hear from you folks that have had failures.
