It ain't bad. I did all the wiring on my '80 900T in an afternoon - LH 2.2, Hall-Effect, and APC. It was not a problem. I honestly fear more dealing with EZK, but I suppose it comes down to how much boost you want to run. At stock boost levels (~12psi) EZK can surely deal with it, but I think more than that you're running a risk not using APC, or taking other measures like water-injection, etc. I have always wondered about running EZK & APC, but desensitising the APC's knock detection to prevent it from "fighting" with EZK's. I've never had an engine I felt like blowing up in the experiment... :D Right now I'm putting LH 2.4.2 into my 2-door, so that's taking all my electrical brainpower ATM...
As for crappy brakes, I gotta tell you, I've never had a problem with the early-style brakes. They are spongier than I'd like, but they don't seem to have a problem slowing the car down with the right pads & rotors. I always swap on '86/'87 vented fronts, but that's about it. On my 2-door I have a set of Wilwood Ultralites (4-pot billet) that absolutely rock; total bolt-on affair, the only thing I had to do was trim down the dust shield. And adjust to life without a parking brake. :D
