Which years should I buy (late 80's / early 90s)?

I'm thinking about buying an old classic 900 convertible. Can anyone suggest particular model-years to avoid or model-years to seek?
I believe airbags went in from '90 onward, so I'm thinking 90-93. What are the big gotcha items. I currently drive a 9-5 but I'm looking to step down (to rid myself of car payments to help me buy more of a house). I've always liked the old 900 look. I'm probably only interested in the higher horsepower models w/ manual transmission.
Any thoughts / ideas?
Thanks,
KevinH
