I've used everything from tiny screwdrivers to the official tools to bent up paperclips. I have about a 60% success rate, which isn't really useful. The sad part is that I've seriously had about equal luck just yanking on the wires themselves - most the time the locking tabs just bend over and they must be straightened, but they remain intact.... Regardless, 60% isn't good for anything, and that is precisely why I was trying to find a source for the terminals themselves...
Getting them out is a combination of getting the tool on the right side of the terminal, and gently pushing and pulling in the wire. It's difficult because there is actually a fair amount of space in the connector and the tab is very small and very strong, so you need something that is very small and very, very strong... or the tabs overpower your tool.
I wish I had some sage advice, but in the end I just bought new relay panels and standard Hella terminals to get my job done...
What exactly is it you're trying to do, anyway?
