This is just the opinion of an older guy who has lived with horses for many years. Lots of trailer time. I tow our two horses behind a Chevy 2500 HD 4WD Duramax with a gooseneck trailer. (Yes, its overkill!) You may be able to tow behind a Saab with a light trailer with brakes, but there is a lot more involved than getting the trailer into motion. You will have no margin of safety whatsoever for either sudden stops or acceleration into traffic. Even braking while turning a corner at low speed can become a problem once the trailer weighs as much as the tow vehicle. One start on any sort of hill and your clutch would be shot. Also...don't forget the weight of water, hay, and tack. It all adds up. I've witnessed a trailer wreck involving horses and it wasn't pretty. Sorry if I seem a bit ranting here, but I really like horses and they depend on our judgement when it comes to driving behind cars. Of course it's your stuff, but an accident would be a real bitch. Perhaps renting a truck for trailering? Somehow I don't find all the hitch weight math very comforting when push comes to shove.
