I would not tow anything more than about 1,000 max, and really would suggest that about 700lbs on the trailer is a better figure as you will be putting *other* stuff in the car. It all adds up to the GVW figure. And here is why. I had the Saab tow hitch that bolts on, it fits well and is very sturdy. Now the delimma, I am most likely the only person you will meet that has three receivers, three sizes of tow balls, magnetic tow lights for towing a car four down, a setup to tow a car four down, a dual axle trailer with surge brakes all metal and *no* wood whatsoever, 9000 fit with ease although it is a smaller trailer, and yet I don't have a tow vehicle AT ALL (not yet!). So when I acquired the SAAB bolt on to a c900 tow hitch, and since I *only* own c900 and 9000s, I thought this was excellent to use to *relocate* the trailer when empty. BIG MISTAKE. Very hard on the clutch! Not sure how much the trailer actually weighs, should figure that out on the next run to the claw selling stripped 900 or 9000 for metal... Basically I think that a light weight trailer with a single dirt bike, a single street bike, one PWV, or similar is about the maximum you would want to do.
I sold my hitch to a guy and last I heard he is very happy with it. I used to tow a single dirtbike on a single rail single axle little tires lightweight trailer behind my last car before my first Saab. It was similar in size and features and that would be where I'd personally draw the line.
I'm on the prowl for a Suburban right now, they are very inexpensive!
