LH 2.2 rarely needs anything other than a AMM or the AIC valve or throttle plate cleaned. LH 2.4 cars seemed to go through ECU's. Those can be either expensive, or tough to find or both. Our 89 convertible was off the road twice over the last 5 years because its ECU failed, and I couldn't find a good used one. I've never noticed any difference in the idle quality or how quickly the engine fires to life with either the 2.2 cars or the 2.4 cars, or even the DI/APC 9000 I had. I understand that the 2.4 cars can compensate for a dirty throttle plate, but how hard is it to clean that every other year? When they work, all of theses systems work very well. Much better than CIS.
When your 2.2 car needs a new AMM it will probably stumble when its cold. You can still drive it. When your 2.4 car needs an ECU, its usually dead on the side of the road.
The only think the only thing I prefer about the 2.4 and 2.4.2 cars is that with the exception of 1989, my ISAT can talk to them.
Why would you install a DI/APC? Just to prove it could be done? That seems like a boatload of work and I can't imagine that it would do anything to improve reliability or performance, although I'm sure it looks unique under the hood.
