Maybe I'm charmed, but I've never had an LH 2.4 ECU go bad. I cannot stand the constantly hunting idle of the LH 2.2 in every LH 2.2 car I've ever owned. And that's even after inspecting/cleaning/replacing the AIC, AMM &/or Throttle body.
Mostly I installed DI/APC for the fun & challenge of it. It is not nearly as difficult to do as one might think (Trionic is another story...). All the parts are available on or adaptable from a 90-92 9000. And if you have an 89 or later motor in your 900 to start, the hardest part of the job is done (it has the right oil pump for the CPS).
DI/APC has one advantage over standard APC: Since DI/APC controls both ignition and boost, the FIRST thing it does when it senses knock is retard the spark timing. Boost is only bled off when it runs out of spark timing to retard.
