Never had one go bad either. I've never even heard of one going bad save the '89 cars with known problems. But, it's a 30 minute operation to swap a '90+ ECU into an '89, and then that problem is resolved.
I have swapped every single c900 I've owned in the last five years with 2.2 to 2.4. Aside from idle that works and self-calibrating AMMs, LH 2.4 cars have far fewer problems passing California smog, and that's why I did it. I've never looked back.
Below is a link to the instructions I wrote. The only thing I've changed in subsequent swaps is that rather than soldering the O2 heater +12v wire to the big 6-pin connectors, I started grabbing power directly from the fuel injection relay. It's much cleaner - looks/works totally factory. I think I can get a picture of the work on my 5-door if that doesn't make sense.
