Yes it would. Perhaps my post wasn't clear. I only used the primer on the part that I painted gray. The polished area just got a clear coat. You have to make sure that the bare metal is free of any oils, grease, or polishing compound residue. Get a product like Prepsol or SherWilClean from an autobody supply shop and clean them really well. Don't touch the area afterward or you'll get body oils on it. Make sure you spray them when the humidity is really low or the lacquer will cloud. I like to do it outside on a hot sunny day. Spray them in a shady area, put the lacquer on pretty wet. Then after about 10 minutes in the shade, put them in the sun for about 15 minutes. If you're going to recoat them, let them cool first. The sun will help dry out any moisture that may have gotten in the lacquer. But you want the lacquer to level a bit first before putting it in the sun. Practice on a piece of aluminum foil or something first to work on the technique for your particular weather conditions.
