I totally agree, that's how they're meant to be driven - these cars are awesome in snow! Ours has seen plenty of it, and it's always a blast - I look forward to big snowstorms just to take it out for a spin (has hakkas of course). It's the salt that's killer though. What I meant by "point of no return" is eventually they start to rust (+ crack) at the control arm mounting points + a few other structural areas. My parents are hitting that point with their 1989 even though it gets heavily under coated every year. It may soon be a parts car + it has not had a rough life (always garaged + rust proofed), but always a daily driver. Our car's in better shape but I figure if I want to still be driving it 5 years from now, I need to get it on a low salt diet. I'm not worried about value (it's basically worthless), just future enjoyment.
have you had to deal with structural rust? and if so, was it no big deal, or huge cost/effort? are you confident the structural safety is still there?
I can replace a rusting door panel + end up working + looking good as new, but structural rust worries me...
cheers,
James...
