Looks like too nice a car to part out but the smart money says that the final drive is wrecked and you'll need another gearbox to install. About the only thing that causes these to lock up entirely is severe final drive failure that is usually the result of extreme wear on the pinion bearings or operating low on oil. If you decide to fix the car keep in mind that that broken unit probably contains a few pieces that are in demand by rebuilders like me (so don't just throw it out). I suspect that (if it is a pretty straight and rust-free car) there will be someone that will buy it to fix if advertised in the classified section here. Anyway, raise it up and take off the differential cover and look in there and see what the ring and pinion look like and if there are any gear teeth laying around. With both front wheels raised roll one and see if the opposite wheel rolls in the opposite direction.
Just so it doesn't go unsaid, there are other internal transmission failures that can lock up the front axles but they are very unlikely, almost hypothetical, and still require removing and rebuilding the unit. An example would be if the unit was locked into two gears at once. That is "possible" but usually when internal failure causes that to happen a mainshaft gear will just shed its teeth instantly and the car will roll.
