I initiated some discussion on this problem back in February. The problem persists. Here's part of my February post: "A couple weeks ago went to start the vehicle and nothing happened....nothing. No dash lights whatsoever, no solenoid click. I thought that maybe I didn't turn the key clockwise enough. Started up on second attempt. About a week ago it happened again, but this time it started on the third attempt after failing twice. So now I'm a little more concerned. Today I drove it for about a half hour and turned it off. About a half hour later went to start it and it failed to start several times. Same condition: no dash/instrument lights, no solenoid click, no sings of power anywhere. After several turns of the ignition switch it decided to crank normally and fire right up."
Here's what I've done so far:
1. Replaced the ignition lock relay with two different ones that are known to work in other vehicles.
2. Replaced the ignition switch with a used one.
3. Installed a new ignition amplifier.
4. Cleaned/inspected both ends of the negative battery terminal.
5. Cleaned/inspected the battery end of the positive battery terminal. (This cable was renewed 5 years ago.)
The car engine runs great, when it starts, but;
When the brake pedal is depressed sometimes there is a brief power interruption. Sometimes, when ignition switch is off, the two direction indicators on the instrument panel, and the exterior four-corners running lights flash. I suspect a grounding problem. Where are the ground points for the brake lights and other lighting circuits? I've cleaned the grounding connections next to the battery, and the one in the engine bay, above the left front wheel, next to the ignition amplifier. I use this car to launch my 14' Jon boat and it's a PITA when it fails to start at the ramp!
