Welcome -- one of the frustrations can be eliminated by taking out that dang guillotine that swings over to capture the pin at the bottom of the shifter.
Leaving in the bottom pin below the plastic pivot, and having it properly adjusted helps with the lockout of reverse and not pushing the lever too far to the right when shifting into fifth.
Some people leave off the top plate that had the screws that were eaten up. I guess it depends upon how concerned you are about someone stealing the car. In your case, the boat too......and trailer.....
